Meet our Turkish Vans!

Nystan

Nystan

EC S*Wailet's Cherry, or Nystan as we call her, is our first Turkish Van. She was born 19 August 1990. She is a very special cat. She is not fond of other animals. In her opinion, living on an island accompanied by me, Ulrika, and some kilograms of ham would be the perfect life! There we could sleep all the days and all the nights, just eating a little every now and then. And she would never ever have to deal with disgusting cats or dogs. Nystan really hates dogs! Once, when we went for a walk, we met a large Rottweiler. And of course Nystan was immediately ready to fight him! "Come on! I'm not afraid!!!" she shouted in Turkish. The only solution was to quickly press her against a large tree and cover her with my own body, hoping that the Rottweiler would not understand Turkish! Luckily the owner of the dog appeard just a few seconds later, so we all survived.

Nystan

Something else that Nystan hates is when I am away from home over the night. When it is bedtime, and I am not back, she sits howling at the door waiting for me to come. And then she lives in misery until I am back home again. When I am coming, she is screaming of excitement, and then I immediately greet her of course. But then she turns away, clearly showing that she is deeply upset with me. I have to work on it for a while before we are on good terms again.

Gishe

Gishe

IDP IC S*Wailet's Geisha, called Gishe, is a very funny cat. She cannot walk over a plain surface without falling over herself somehow. And she cannot walk over a paper that is lying on a table without making the paper fall down on the floor. It just HAPPENS to her! Then she is looking at us as if she accused us for it! Also, we have to put her down carefully after we have held her, since she doesn't always land on her feet. She is too relaxed, and she always counts on us to care for her safe arrival on the floor, so if we don't she simply falls on her back. This is sometimes a bit embarrasing at the cat shows. Sometimes she has just fallen in a big furry heap on the judge's table, and then that accusing glance and the very accusing "meoooow"! Some judges have automatically thought that she was starting to fight them, since this is probably the most common reason why a cat is lying on its back with all four paws in the air on the judge's table. But soon they realise that the cat is simply nuts! Which we realise is the truth. :-D

Gishe sadly died 24 November 2007. She had mammary cancer, which spread to other parts of her body. :-( She lived to be 12 1/2 years old.

Our Turkish Van kittens

Between 1992 and 1996 we bred four litters of Turkish Van kittens. Nystan had two litters, with all together six kittens and Gishe had one litter of five. And then we also borrowed Nystan's daughter Tasha for one litter. She got four kittens. Have a look at our Turkish Van kittens at the Ylletrolls page!
